Linda Six Feathers stopped by and brought me a gift of Manoomin–wild rice. We’re getting Red Dove, Run Through the Fire ready for publication in the fall, and it will include recipes for Native foods. Manoomin is grown and harvested by the Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) people, but since so many tribal nations toured with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, it’s probably a food she would have enjoyed.
1891 and Red Dove escapes Indigenous boarding school to join survivors of Wounded Knee and tour Europe with Annie Oakley in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West. Her Lakota grandfather’s medicine pouch taught her the value of empathy. Now she must find the courage to speak her truth. www.soniaantaki.com @redd0ve @reddovebook @soniaantaki @redchairpress @lindasixfeathers @andrewbosley #indigenousboardingschool #annieoakley #buffalobill #nativeamericanbooks #middlegradebooks #betweenworlds @americanindiancenter @LAIC #childrensbooks
