But long before Larissa FastHorse wrote The Thanksgiving Play, Zitkala Sa (the real-life Red Bird on whom the character of Red Dove is based) wrote The Sundance Opera, which was also performed on Broadway–but it was her collaborator William Hanson who got the credit.
