FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY–WOJAPI

October 10, 2021 by sonia antaki

Linda Six Feathers’ recipe for Wojapi–the traditional Native American pudding–using blueberries. It’s usually made with chokecherries, but blueberries are just as delicious (and easier to find).
Wash about 3 cups fruit and put into a medium saucepan  with 1/2 cup water. Bring to a simmer–but not a boil–and stir until the fruit breaks down into a lumpy thick sauce (about 15 minutes). For a thicker consistency, slowly stir in 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Add honey if a sweeter pudding is desired. Serve warm or cool–and enjoy!
